Shanelle Patterson was nominated for assisting a patient with her home oxygen needs. The patient stated that they wanted home oxygen set up. It was a constant worry for her. Shanelle recognized this and wrote it on the patient's board. Shanelle knew that the patient needed to be tested on Oxygen saturation while on Room air to validate conditional need. Instead of waiting for the forms and the request from the Social Worker, Shanelle took the initiative to test the patient early in the shift, document the outcome on the appropriate forms and had them ready and waiting for the Social Worker before her arrival on the unit. By taking the initiative to address what was most important to the patient, Shanelle effectively reduced the wait time and was equally pleased that her efforts paid off when the Oxygen was delivered to the patient that same day.
