Shanika Findlay, BSN, RN
I am recognizing Shanika Findlay because she made an extraordinary impact on our family during one of the most vulnerable and emotional times in our lives.
From the very first moment I met her in the NICU, she radiated warmth, calm, and genuine care. Shanika cared for my son with a level of tenderness and attentiveness that went far beyond her duties; she treated him as if he were her own. Every touch, every check-in, every smile she gave him reassured me that he was safe, loved, and receiving the best care possible.
In a time filled with fear, uncertainty, and worry, Shanika became a source of peace and comfort for our entire family.
What meant even more was the way she cared for us as parents. As a first-time mother in the NICU, I felt scared and unsure, but Shanika always took time to guide me, teach me, and reassure me. She explained monitors and medical routines with patience, showed me feeding and soothing techniques, and encouraged me to participate in my son’s care so I could build confidence. She answered every question with kindness, never making me feel rushed or overwhelmed.
Shanika wasn’t just caring for a baby; she was supporting a mother learning how to care for her child in the most fragile circumstances.
Her kindness, empathy, and steady presence made an experience that could have been traumatic feel manageable and even hopeful. She is very knowledgeable with newborns and answered questions others couldn’t!
Shanika also went out of her way to make sure my entire family felt included and informed. She treated us with dignity, respect, and warmth every single day. She celebrated small wins with us, comforted us when we were anxious, and made sure we always felt heard.
It is rare to meet someone who combines exceptional clinical skill with such deep emotional understanding and humanity.
There are nurses who do their jobs with professionalism, and then there are nurses like Shanika who change lives with their presence, compassion, and heart. She not only cared for my son; she lifted our family up when we needed it most, and we will always remember her for the love, patience, and strength she gave us.
Shanika is truly a blessing, and we will forever be grateful for her care, dedication, and the light she brought into our NICU journey.
