... Shanin called a Veteran to remind him of his upcoming appointment at the local hospital. He was supposed to be staying at our facility the night before and during the phone call, she noticed he was talking very slow and was hard to understand. He sounded confused. She asked him if he was feeling weaker than he was two weeks ago when he was last in and he said yes and had not been able to keep food down. She asked him to hang up and call 911 for help and the Veteran said yes he would. She waiting about 10 minutes and then called the 911 non-emergent line to have an officer go out to do a welfare check and relayed the story to them. They stated that they had not had any calls from the Veteran. They sent an officer out and they reported back to Shanin stating he was in bad condition and it looked as though he had not eaten in weeks. They got the Veteran to the hospital and saved his life.
Shanin is a great RN and cares for her Veterans and will not give up until she knows she has done everything she can possibly do to help them.
