Shanita showed a level of going above and beyond to ensure that her patient felt heard, supported, and cared for.
Shanita went above and beyond for a patient and it really touched me. It exemplifies what leadership asks us to do.
A patient on the floor was unable to be as hands-on with her unborn child. Now for the person who does not have children, this seems like a far distant issue; and for those who do have children, this patient became one of them: "MOM.
There were baby items in the employee break room, but I didn't pay much attention to them. Shanita went and grabbed the items. I asked if there was a member of the staff who was expecting; however, she explained that she obtained them for a patient.
This made me feel amazing in so many ways. Shanita did not know the patient personally. She cared for the patient and they connected on a level as a mom. When I asked her why she did it, she simply replied, "I don't know, I'm a mom." I do not know the impact this had on that patient, but I do know that I and N, who happened to be sitting near, felt touched by her actions. She took caring for this patient to the next level and did not expect anything in return. Shanita showed a level of going above and beyond to ensure that her patient felt heard, supported, and cared for.
Shanita demonstrated an excellent way of taking care of others. She took it to the next level, and it made me proud to be able to witness such selflessness.
