Shanna makes herself available daily, not only as the manager of our team but also to assist with caring for our patients.
Integrity: Shanna has Integrity and leads by example through the importance of upholding the characteristics that embody integrity. She discusses important topics at our daily huddles including current nursing practices, VA policies, and guidelines created by our VISN 15, and encourages our staff to stay involved with our UBC, ethics, and evolving committees at the VA. Nursing leaders promote an environment that is trusting, respectful and safe, where nurses can feel comfortable expressing thoughts and feelings about situations that may arise regarding integrity.

Commitment: Shanna has a strong commitment to the VA facility, our VA staff, and our Veterans through our High-Reliability training for our VA team members. YTD, Shanna, and the HRO VA instructors have educated over 50% of the Marion VA staff Advocacy:

Shanna as nurse manager advocates for our staff to ensure safe and reasonable staff practices to ensure proper medication administration and to advocate for patient safety and access to quality healthcare.

Respect: Shanna, as our Nurse manager, provides ongoing feedback to staff through daily huddles that allow our SDS/OR team to build a relationship with each employee and allows for her staff to bring up concerns and safety issues in real-time to protect our Veterans and staff. Shanna also organized a team-building activity this year in March to bring a more respectful environment and improved communication lines for enhanced care. She had 100% of the SOS/OR attend!

Excellence: Shanna supports our VA goal of providing excellent Veteran care. Shanna makes herself available daily, not only as the manager of our team but also to assist with caring for our patients. She stays involved by transporting our patients to OR to prevent delays. Assisting staff with patient discharges to reduce the time of stay and routinely providing updates to patients and SOS/OR staff to enhance open communication. She is a real DAISY to our Marion VA!
