She looked at me with those eyes that proclaimed wisdom far beyond her years and told me she doesn’t give up on anyone, especially those who are in her care.
Shannon Bennett is the epitome of compassion, service, and taking charge. She is my favorite female nurse because of her “can do'' attitude. I had a sharp pain in my posterior for several days that would be hard to link to my fall because it came about several days later and I did not fall on my backside. She researched and tried several different things to relieve my pain, but it was to no avail. I told Shannon to give up and that I would live with it for now. She looked at me with those eyes that proclaimed wisdom far beyond her years and told me she doesn’t give up on anyone, especially those who are in her care. She said, "there is an answer and I will find it". The next day she came in waving what looked like an oversized mouse pad and some baby powder. She explained that the pain in the right side of my posterior might be caused by uneven pressure and the fact that in my condition I am unable to move my bottom, in any direction, because it always seemed to be stuck to either the sheet or the pad. I did not possess the strength to lift up far enough to become unstuck and move to a comfortable position. The “mouse pad” had an adhesive that she stuck on my right side and then she spread baby powder so I could move easily. That is thinking out of the box and dedication to her patient. That Spirit of service to those who can’t help themselves embodies going above and beyond and is who Shannon is as a nurse and human being. There were plenty of examples of Shannon giving of herself to me through her humor and respect and I hope you award her the highest possible award. If we don’t reward good behavior and the spirit of compassion, then we are giving credence to those who don’t.
