My father was flown to your facility from Lima; he had suffered a massive ischemic stroke. From the moment he arrived, to the very last second before he was transferred back to Lima, he received superior care from all of your staff. I cannot speak highly enough about your staff in general, however; there are two nurses I would like to recognize. To say those 11 days were a whirlwind would be an understatement.
Our family is small and we are all from out of town. My mother refused to leave my father and one of us stayed with her at all times. To say we were overbearing and a lot to handle for the nurses would be completely accurate. These two nurses embraced our constant presence. They recognized our perpetual and overwhelming questions and were remarkably patient with us. They never made us feel as if they had to hurry out of the room or that our questions were foolish.
The bond these two nurses formed with my father no doubt helped in his recovery. They not only cared for their patient, but they also recognized his need for individual attention and an emotional connection; even though he was without the ability to speak. They encouraged conversation, following commands, ambulating and daily activities, even on days when PT and OT were not scheduled. They were incredibly tolerant and forgiving when he would become agitated and borderline pugnacious. He enjoyed the majority of his nurses, but his face would like up with these two. On occasion, they stopped by his room to check on him, even if he was not their patient for the day.
These two nurses went above and beyond for our family during our time of need. We will forever be grateful. They took a horrific family emergency and undoubtedly turned it into a scary yet tolerable situation. It is a debt we will never be able to repay.
