I am a patient in the Oncology Clinic; I have been a patient at Driscoll Hospital since August of 2013. I've come across so many nurses during my 4 years of treatments, but there's one nurse in particular who always made me laugh and treated me as if I was her own son. She would explain everything I needed to know in regards to my treatments and broke down every step that would take place taking these medications, she would also tell me to always go forward and that soon all this would be over and that I was doing just great. Always giving me confidence telling me when you're done, what are your future plans, I would tell her, well when I finish High School I will continue College and prepare myself in a career in sports medicine. I know that's a lot of schooling but I'm going to follow my DREAMS. But when she would give me my treatments and I would just do what I was told and take all of my meds as asked. She helped me get through some of my toughest times, but of course, you also have to have faith, I know there were a lot of people praying for me especially my Grandmother. So in despite of all this, I would be more than honored to recognize Shannon Broughton in the Oncology Clinic for being that Extraordinary Nurse for just going out of her way to make me that strong person I am, and always making me feel at ease, she is extraordinary to me and definitely would go out of her way to make me follow my future dreams. I feel Shannon really got me through something I thought I wouldn't be able to. So hope she continues to do what she does best to make all her patients very happy.
