Shannon takes care of the patient holistically, realizing each person had a life, family, and responsibilities prior to the sickness that has temporarily robbed their independence. She makes her patients feel seen and heard.
Shannon Dominguez embodies all of the characteristics of a DAISY Nurse. As a nurse practitioner for the past 16 years, I have had the opportunity to work with many nurses. Shannon ranks among the most compassionate, intentional, and caring nurses I have had the privilege to work with. Shannon sees her patients for who they are, not just the disease process she is tasked with treating. She takes care of the patient holistically, realizing each person had a life, family, and responsibilities prior to the sickness that has temporarily robbed their independence. She makes her patients feel seen and heard. She takes the time to do the things that really matter to patients, like ensuring they are comfortable and spending time learning about their lives. When I am rounding on my patients, they will often comment about the nurses they love and the ones they don’t. Shannon is always a favorite nurse among all of the patients from the kindest to the most difficult. Every patient always has wonderful things to say about how well Shannon cares for them.  She is soft-spoken, mild-mannered, and very nurturing. Shannon makes her patients feel special, valued, and loved.

Shannon is equally adored by her colleagues. She is very efficient and organized in her nursing tasks, completing them quickly and with excellence.  This allows her time to help her colleagues, which she does willingly.  Her colleagues look to her for leadership, critical thinking, and support on a hard day. She is quick to troubleshoot problems and offer solutions.  Even on her most challenging days, she never seems to allow the stress to overwhelm her or negatively affect her attitude toward others. She is committed to continuing to grow professionally with ongoing education, recently graduating and obtaining her RN license.  She serves as a preceptor for new nurses, and it is obvious that teaching is one of her many gifts.

Shannon is committed to doing the right things for her patients and doing them the right way.  She is a patient advocate. She always communicates new findings or concerns about her patient to the provider.  The providers know and trust her clinical judgment and experience.

Shannon’s passion for her profession is refreshing.  She is an inspiration to me and to others.  She is the nurse I would want at my bedside or the bedside of my family members. She is truly a DAISY Nurse.
