I am writing to you about an Extraordinary Nurse. Shannon is a hardworking, compassionate, efficient caregiver. Meeting Shannon for the first time, I could feel her compassion through her eyes as she helped my father. She treated him with respect and dignity, as well as our family. As my father’s time lengthened at LVHN and his condition worsened, Shannon was our rock. She continuously gave my father the best care, from haircuts to feeding and bathing him. She kept us informed and educated at all times, explaining everything to our family. Even if my father was not Shannon’s nurse, she still popped in her head to say hello, or to lend an ear ensuring he will be ok. Shannon continued her support even when my father was moved to hospice. Her shoulder was the first I cried on. Her words, hugs, and support will never be forgotten. That moment was full of mixed emotions of relief, pain, and anxiety. Shannon’s presence helped my mixture of emotions. I knew I could move on to the next level of emotional challenges with my dad with her support. I have always had such anxieties about hospitals. Watching Shannon this past month has definitely put that at ease. I have so much more respect for all areas and levels of the healthcare system. Being there for so long and at all hours, I really learned a lot in a positive way. My fears and anxiety have definitely subsided. I thank Shannon for her service, help, guidance, love, hugs, and, most of all, her medical expertise. She is a true gem.
