To briefly describe Shannon and the level of care she provides, I would say simply amazing! Shannon embodies and personifies all of the qualities so critically inherent to a person in her profession. She is nurturing, caring, informative, personable, compassionate, respectful, and extremely trustworthy.
From the moment my wife and newborn son arrived on the 8th floor of Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babiesduring the late evening hours, Shannon was immediately devotedly focused on them and their care. Shannon already knew the entire story and history of the events surrounding the birth of our child and my wife's progress throughout the long day at the hospital. Her first focus was to ensure that my wife had a meal because she knew that it had been over 24 hours since she last ate. She worked around the PACU nurse who accompanied us to the 8th floor and focused her attention on my wife to ensure comfort and stability. Once she knew my wife was quickly settled, she turned her full attention to our son and provided a level of care and nurturing that I can only assume she would provide a child of her own.
Shannon is so much more than a nurse. She is an educator, an advocate, and a counselor and this was evident from the very first moment she introduced herself to us. We felt as though my wife and son were Shannon's only patients, that is how dedicated, available, and devoted she was to them. Shannon regularly checked up on us to see what was needed or if there were any new developments. She cared for our son in such a loving and deliberate way that anyone who witnessed it may assume she was part of our family! She answered every question we had and call we made to her with expeditious and expert reliability.
When Shannon was not on duty, we felt her absence and definitely missed her! Shannon set the bar so high on that first night of our stay that we looked forward to her arrival the next evening. Her personable demeanor and high skillset put us at ease, and we found ourselves wishing we could take her home with us to help us continue to care for our baby and be the pleasant, calming, and informative force that she is. You can hold a personal conversation with Shannon too. She is approachable, astute, funny, and simply an overall good person.
