When I look back in 10 years and think of how I became a good nurse, I'll think of Shannon. She has taught me and shaped me more than years of school ever has. She taught me how to think through complex issues, organize, prioritize, and be a caretaker. She is patient with me. She pulls me into the cases and explains the physiology of them, the meds, and the next steps. She is a patient advocate, goes above and beyond with the little things, and eases families' worries. She is knowledgeable, kind, and personable as both a nurse and my teacher. Not only has she been a mentor to me as a future nurse, but also as a person. She has guided me in life advice. She has talked me through career paths. I am going to miss her a lot and she will always be a big part of my journey. She always has my back.
