Time – something Shannon had in short supply – but she gave it to me. She calmed the scared patient, soothed the stressed mother, and gave a smile to a lost person.
Shannon was stuck with me over a couple of shifts. I know that I was clingy, scared, and weepy, trying to deal with a stressful situation. Shannon got to deal with all that while helping me strive for healing from a scary situation. I was so grateful for her amazing patience and kindness. I can’t imagine keeping up with multiple demanding patients and even the basic tasks of nursing that I could never do. I am not as tough or dedicated. Shannon could easily have handled my needs and her tasks and moved on, but she didn’t. Shannon didn’t just do what was required but instead took the time to find out what I needed, which was usually just time – a few minutes of human communication. Time – something Shannon had in short supply – but she gave it to me. She calmed the scared patient, soothed the stressed mother, and gave a smile to a lost person. Those things were a huge blessing, and I am extremely grateful for those gifts. Thank you, Shannon! Keep being a blessing to your patients!
