Shannon is the nurse you always want your child to have and she is the nurse you strive to live up to. She is kind, compassionate, and always willing to go the extra mile. I know what you are thinking, you could say this about a million nurses but let me explain. Shannon is always paying attention to what is not said. Much of an Ortho nurse's time is spent on the phone talking with parents about their child's postoperative course. I have witnessed Shannon elicit information from parents they didn't even know was important and changed the course of treatment. She knows how to read a room and how to be there for people in their hardest times. In her time in Orthopedics she has done everything! She spent over 10 years being a primary spine RN to patients who are undergoing some of the most complex surgeries in order to help improve their quality of life, working with skeletal dysplasia patients, clubfoot babies, and everything in between. Shannon is an invaluable resource to the department and the organization. She knows so many people in different departments that she always knows how to direct families to the resources they need. She was an amazing teacher, coworker, to me during my time in Orthopedics and deserves to be recognized.
