When I arrived at the ICU from the emergency room I was having a very bad medical emergency and was very afraid it was going to turn out badly. When the ICU care team took over they all did a great job getting me settled, making sure I was safe and secure, and efficiently got me hooked up to the equipment, and the “process” began. The ICU is an area where things move quickly and good care is the norm but Shannon was exceptional in going the “extra mile” to help me be less stressed out and to be kind and compassionate – she treated me with great respect, engaged me in conversation, reassured me about all the procedures being done and she answered all my questions. She is an outstanding nurse because she is not only efficient but organized and good at her job. She has a special skill when making me feel like I could make it through this ordeal with her help – and I did.

I know nursing is a demanding job with a lot of stress and difficult work but Shannon handled it all with a great attitude, compassion, and skill. She made this very scary experience so much easier for me.

I am an older person with a disability, and we are often treated negatively – but nurse Shannon was exceptional in making me feel cared for in many ways. She is a great asset to Swedish Hospital’s ICU team.
