My 89-year-old Dad was at the ER to stop bleeding from his gum around a broken tooth. We first met Shannon in triage while being checked in and queued for a room. She was very pleasant and proved that the patient is number one by talking with my dad and me and keeping us engaged throughout the triage process. Since Maple Grove is in a populated area, our wait time estimate went from an estimated 2 hours to 3 hours. During that time, Shannon came out with a utility cart loaded with warm blankets and other comfort items to make the people in overflow from the ER lobby comfortable. Each time we saw her, she was smiling and actually enjoying her job. When it was our turn to be checked into a room, we were lucky enough to have her bring us back to the room, and she was still happy to get us situated. We were having great luck because she was the person taking care of my dad once we had a room. Throughout the time we were in the ER, she carried on a conversation with my dad as a person, not another task in the ER. When it was time to be released, she walked us out to say goodbye. She is a great asset to the nursing staff and to the medical community. Great job, Shannon!
