Mom thrived off her energy and upbeat little spirit. Shannon brought such a positive presence every time she opened the door.
My mother was in a serious car accident and was admitted to UNC Hospital after a horrible experience at another hospital. She was critical. She was in SICU and they were amazing. The nurses and staff were just phenomenal. She spent a few days in a stepdown unit before she arrived on 5 Bedtower. I guess I hadn’t slept much at all, from worry and anxiety. There were times that I wasn’t sure she was going to live. I was worried about the move to 5 Bedtower. I just assumed that the lower the level of care, would mean the lower QUALITY of care. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The nurses and techs on 5 Bedtower allowed me to find peace for the 1st time in nearly 3 weeks. Shannon was Mom’s nurse on dayshift for a few days. Shannon is a rare gift to nursing. Mom thrived off her energy and upbeat little spirit. Shannon brought such a positive presence every time she opened the door. She kept mom and me informed of every med she passed, every update, and she was an amazing teacher. She went the extra mile when Mom was confused or just didn’t understand. She was quick to contact the care team when Mom was in pain or something just didn’t look right. I’m not sure there’s a nurse on this side of the Mississippi who could have taken better care of my 73-year-old broken-down Momma. Please consider this as my heartfelt nomination for Shannon to receive the DAISY Award.
