When I started working at RIH, I was a Room Service Host in the kitchen. I met Shannon on the 8th floor (Oncology Floor) and from the beginning, she never treated me like I was less than her. I was always her equal. She makes everyone on that floor feel welcomed. She is one of the reasons why I applied to be a CNA on the Oncology floor. Once I became a CNA on the Oncology floor, I started to get to know Shannon more. I saw how she puts her whole heart into her job. She is there 110% for her patients. She will do whatever it takes to get her patients what they need to make their experience at the hospital a smooth one. Our floor is not an easy floor to work on. Especially dealing with patients who just find out that they have cancer, going through chemo treatments and end of life care. You need a special kind of person for that job and that is Shannon. Shannon will stop what she is doing to console one of her patients/family members. She will sit there and explain things to the patient or family member if they don't understand something about chemo or radiation. She is even awesome with the staff. She will help out the CNA if they are busy. No job or task is beneath her. Me personally, I am grateful for Shannon and all her help and wisdom she has given me since I started as a CNA. She has explained things to me and helped me when no one else would take the time to. I wish we could have more loving, caring, supportive, team player nurses like Shannon. Shannon does "Deliver health with Care."
