Shannon Martin, RN II
Shannon was one of the first RNs who cared for me shortly after admission. I always try to be sociable with staff to show my respect for those in healthcare over the past few years. While chatting, I asked her about a local sandwich shop said to be #11 of the top 10 Philadelphia cheesesteaks (probably since it’s in West Reading.) I asked everyone their opinions since I only go to town on their “closed” days. Shannon said she heard of it but never went. I found her to be genuinely caring, polite, intelligent, and outgoing.
Due to a snafu with Dietary the very next AM, I was ordered NPO due to a bronchi scheduled for that day which was not going to happen. I spent about nine hours fuming about no food all day when Shannon stopped in for her night shift. She said, “Look!” And she produced a bag of sandwiches. She had gotten lunch for her crew and whipped out a huge Sammy for me. I was glad she left to start work before she saw my tears. To be remembered and gifted doesn’t occur in my life. I’ll never forget her kind gesture. A true angel and asset.
