Shannon has worked in a variety of fields within and outside of nursing, which gives her the adaptability and critical thinking skills that are so needed on our unit.
Shannon is not only an amazing nurse but also a true friend of mine, and it is my honor to nominate her for such an award. Shannon arrived on our unit after leaving Strong to come to G1 just over a year ago. In this time, she has had a profound impact on G1 as a whole. Her wealth of knowledge is astounding and is only surpassed by her compassion for our patients.

Shannon has worked in a variety of fields within and outside of nursing, which gives her the adaptability and critical thinking skills that are so needed on our unit. I have seen her work with such heart with our patients, a perfect example of this was an older patient who would sundown and struggled to fall asleep. She would sit by his bedside, play music, and hold his hand each shift she worked until he would finally fall asleep. This is a set of skills that cannot be taught and is an unteachable quality.

In my 3 years here on G1, I have seen few nurses take the time and give as much as she does to each patient on her assignment each day. Shannon is our weekend charge nurse and is already ready to meet each weekend with a fresh attitude, and makes the unit run smoothly by holding each nurse and tech accountable for giving the highest standards of care for our patients. She is never afraid to speak up and stand up for our staff. She runs a tight ship, and I appreciate everything she does for me and the unit. She is always willing to answer questions, to be a shoulder for a fellow nurse, tech, or even patients to cry on. Not only does she educate our staff, but she is also an educator outside of RRH at SUNY Brockport. She is passing on her knowledge and compassion to a new generation of students and younger nurses on our unit. Since arriving at G1, she has been an invaluable asset not only to my unit but in life as well. I cannot think of any nurse on this unit whose skills, compassion, knowledge, and strength blend so perfectly to embody that of a DAISY Award nominee.
