My mother was a patient at Virtua Marlton for 2 weeks. She arrived by ambulance in the emergency room following surgery at another hospital and in the course of two weeks she spent time on all floors. She has said the nursing care she received at Marlton was of very high quality and seamless. She describes one nurse in particular as "going above and beyond". She described how Shannon Norcross created a very effective "hug me " pillow for her to use against abdominal pain following her surgery, and she said this remedy for pain hadn't occurred to any other nurse even though the surgery took place a few days earlier. She also described how Shannon gave her back a "pommeling" that was "perfect" and exactly what she needed. She said that Shannon anticipated her needs before she even expressed them and that Shannon stood out also for her high level of "emotional maturity". She also expressed that Shannon understood nursing to be "more than a job and that she aspired to be the ideal of a "nurse's nurse". In appreciation for her caring, initiative, and resourcefulness, my mother asked that I nominate Shannon Norcross for the DAISY Award.
