Shannon is a leader on this team whom each of the other nurses comes to for guidance, direction, and positivity. She provides that leadership while asking for input, collaborating, and making everyone feel like a part of the solution.
I have had the pleasure of working with Shannon now for 18+ months and have seen something in her that puts her at the peak of her profession. Shannon has the ability to give the hard information in a loving, yet direct and understandable manner. Something that I have personally seen makes a difference in how patients and families make crucial decisions when the time comes. While Shannon says she isn't a hugger, she is the first person to give a family member a much-needed squeeze and let them know that they are not alone. She finds words of strength, calm, and hope for all of those who leave our house one person less. Shannon knows that each patient is not a one-person operation. She transfers on, not only the medical information that will bring the patient the most comfort. She also shares with the team those little bits of information about the families and friends who come in, stories that have been shared, and what she has found has been comforting to the family. Shannon is a leader on this team whom each of the other nurses comes to for guidance, direction, and positivity. She provides that leadership while asking for input, collaborating, and making everyone feel like a part of the solution. There are so many great nurses here at MGMC, and especially here at IFHH, and while each one deserves recognition for what they do, Shannon stands above and really shows what it is to be a caretaker. A friend, a director, a teacher, and someone that can be counted on, doing whatever needs to be done to ensure every guest feels that their trust in putting their loved one in our care feels justified, and at peace with that decision. There isn't one story that defines Shannon. Her career has shown a long history of doing what is right for the patient and going above and beyond for the families that trust her to guide them. Thank you, young lady, for being the best of us and for being a bright light in a sometimes dim room.
