I would like to take this opportunity to express recognition to an amazing RN. I was walking through the hall between ER and same day surgery when I heard a patient telling his mother how touched he was from his experience after surgery. He stated, "Mom, you know when I went to the doctor and they told me my cancer was in remission, I didn't ring a bell or do anything there exciting? Well, my nurse (Shannon Pate) looked for a bell for me to ring when she found out I was in remission. She couldn't find one, so she had a bell ring from her cell phone and gathered other nurses around and they clapped as the bell went off! It is truly amazing how my port being removed had nothing to do with this day to her until she asked me why I was having it removed and I told her I was in remission." I overheard his mom express how grateful she was for the nurse doing that and that she wished she could have seen it as well. I just wanted to recognize that she went over and beyond just recovering him from surgery that day, she truly impacted him on an entirely different level!
