My 18-month-old grandson came into the Emergency Department after accidentally taking some medications. The experience prior to arrival to the Emergency Department was very traumatizing for my grandson's parents. They witnessed CPR performed on their 18-month-old son. Arriving at the Emergency Department, we met Shannon. She would be my grandson's nurse. Shannon was very patient, calm and took the time to explain everything to us as it was being performed. Shannon displayed love and compassion to both our grandchild and his parents; all while keeping a positive, reassuring and uplifting feeling to the atmosphere and paying attention to the little things in the process. Shannon was on top of his vital signs and oxygenation and reported to Dr. as needed and adjusted medication being infused. She was able to give us the confidence that he would be okay and explained the transfer to UVA PICU process to them in a way they had no questions on the process. We cannot thank Shannon enough for her professionalism, caring, love and reassurance she displayed that day. Shannon was our angel here at Augusta Health. She displayed everything Augusta Health stands for and we are very blessed to have her as part of our organization and Emergency Department.
