She still manages to put the patients that are victims of sexual abuse first. She loses a lot of sleep and time away from her family to ensure the victims are taken care of.
Shannon is an outstanding, professional, committed nurse! She took over the role of Forensic Nurse Coordinator and jumped right in. She is a full-time mom, homeschools her children, and coaches their teams. She still manages to put the patients that are victims of sexual abuse first. She loses a lot of sleep and time away from her family to ensure the victims are taken care of. She stays up to date on everything related to this job and still gets up in the middle of the night to take care of victims/patients. She also does per diem work in the ER at Chestertown. She always has a smile and kind word. The community partners all have the utmost respect for Shannon and enjoy working with her. In this role, she works with The Child Advocacy Centers, and the police in all 5 counties, the state's attorney, For All Seasons for advocacy, social services, and still manages to keep the forensic nurses involved and up to date. We need Pediatric trained nurses in forensics, and she took the course and remains committed to overseeing this program. I needed a break from being a forensic nurse. Shannon was there for me and ensured I received the break I needed for my mental health. I have nothing but respect for Shannon and her loyalty to the nurses, patients and community partners, and this organization. Forensics is a specialty. It is difficult to keep nurses active and skilled in a small rural area but needed as victims are always going to be there and deserve the best care. Shannon's role and her commitment ensure this happens. When I think of the DAISY Award, I think of Shannon who has shown her commitment, professionalism, and work that she does for the victims of abuse. She is a natural in this role and we are lucky to have her! I personally don't think this program would remain if it were not for her and for that she deserves all the praise and this award. Thank you.
