Recently I had the rare experience of being a patient in the ICU in which I am the Charge Nurse. After a construction accident I was left unable to move or feel my arms and legs. I insisted the ambulance take me to Eden Medical Center, where I work, even though it was about 2 hours away from where I was. I knew I needed neurosurgery and I knew I would get the best care in the Country at Eden Medical Center. Shannon Wagner was my nurse for the first three nights I was hospitalized. I was intubated and sedated at first, but I was still aware of the extraordinary care I was receiving. Shannon not only took care of me, but also my family and my girlfriend. When Shannon was there I felt safe and protected. She always advocated for me and made sure I got everything I needed. I was overwhelmed by Shannon's caring and compassion and her professionalism. I know I could not have received better care anywhere. Now I consider Shannon to be more than a colleague, she is part of my family forever. As a result of the excellent care I received, I walked out of the hospital.
