Shanon insisted on what was best for her she continued to counsel and educated her. Mom actually picked up the information and she made changes to her diet and lost over 90 pounds.
My elderly 84-year-old mother was a patient for a whole year and a half at WIHCC Podiatry Clinic. Mom had weekly appointments to see Shanon and the foot doctor. Shanon cleaned her wound each week Mom sat there and cried due to the pain in her foot there were times Shanon struggled with Mom's instructions and communication. Mom is not the easiest to deal with daily, especially with her food intake and taking her medication. Mom refused to listen and hear her out on what is best for her. During those times mom's sight/vision got pretty bad she couldn't see her wound and did a poor job cleaning the wound so she had to make weekly trips to the WIHCC. Her vision got worse and her wound grew bigger would not heal due to the diabetics and poor diet. Our family has a family history of diabetes. Mom ate just about anything she wanted and did not watch her intake. Her A1C was over the moon. Shanon did not give up on my mother. Shanon continuously cleaned her wound and spoke with my mom about her daily food intake exercise and maintaining her weight. Shanon informed and educated mom of her pyramid meals and gave her information on what she should eat and not eat and what to replace when she was going to eat a donut and chips and/or other high scratchy fatty foods. Shanon insisted on what was best for her she continued to counsel and educated her. Mom actually picked up the information and she made changes to her diet and lost over 90 pounds. Her wound healed and mom is nice and trim and she is now on her weight scale. Her sugar level is good. There was a time when mom could not see what was written on her prescription. Mom was taking several different medications. It was very difficult for her to see if she took the right medications as prescribed. Mom was referred to surgery and is doing well today thanks to Nurse Shanon and the doctors who completed the surgery. Shanon is skilled, persistent, and knowledgeable, and she was very patient with my mom even though mom took her on a roller coaster ride of her behaviors and mom's unwillingness to do as she was instructed. Thank you for that continuous dedication of service we are still here with our mother to enjoy many more days and years with her. We love our mother and she is in good health and continues to stay fit daily and chooses to eat healthy daily.

Note: This is Shanon's 2nd DAISY Award!
