Shanon was the first face I saw when I opened my eyes from being in the ER for over 13.5 hours. She had a warm smile on her face and asked me, "are you in pain or do you need anything at all?" I had to just look at her face for a minute before I responded to her questions. All I could do was just smile back at her. After she got me settled in and feeling safe, she says if you need anything just push the button, I'm right here for you and she left the room. I got a phone call and it was my son. He was in Ohio at the time and he called asking Shanon about my wellbeing, but she didn't tell him anything until she came and talk to me first. I told her that's my baby, you can tell him anything he wants to know. After the call was over she came back in the room laughing and said your son is in Ohio, but he is coming in town to get his truck and then come to you. But Shanon did not know that my son had to come through three states to come to get his mother. When they meet, she said you came from Ohio to Richmond? My son said no, I was in Ohio, I came through West Virginia then to North Carolina, then to Richmond VA. Shanon was shocked this child came a long way to get to his mother, that's a very good son she said. That made me feel very good to have come to this hospital and meet this nurse who cares for her patients as she does. She is a blessing. I just want to show my thanks to her. Thank you for having a person like her in your hospital caring for your patients.
