Shantel has provided exemplary care for my 92-year-old mother, a Korean War veteran. Aside from the amount of time spent in the hospital, the sample nomination story accurately describes Shantel. My mother was in recovery on the Ortho unit as she had a partial hip replacement due to a fall. She received excellent care! Shantel really shines above and beyond in her care for my mom, and I'm sure she does the same for her other patients. Not only is she outstanding in her nursing and logistical skills, but she is also compassionate and caring. She totally embodies the understanding of the patient as a whole- body, mind, soul and spirit. She provides for and treats each of these components. The patient is then able to move forward in their healing process more rapidly. My mother has been blessed with Shantel's care, and while her physical body was being restored, she needed encouragement and uplift to battle. Shantel encouraged her and gave her perspective on the future. She has continually kept us, the family, informed of my mother's status and what we might need.
