The impact that Sharon has both within and outside the walls of CCMC on the care of pediatric patients is astounding. Sharon represents CCMC and the Pediatric Service Line on the policy and procedure committee at the organizational level. She effectively manages the issues that arise with the standardization of policies for pediatric patients. She is excellent at resolving conflict constructively when variations in practice arise. Sharon has effectively worked with the IFN, CCMC nursing leadership, and providers to promote a commitment to quality care through the development of these care practices. Her work with Articulate and iLearn produced pediatric enrichment offerings with a vast amount of high-quality, interactive education that promotes increased knowledge and safe practices for pediatrics throughout the organization.

In 2022, Sharon was given the added responsibility of nursing quality. Under her direction, she has improved all outcomes for the nursing quality indicators. Specifically, she has been integral to the revision of the CLABSI HAC team along with the development of the standardized bundle rollout CCMC wide which was crucial to reducing CLABSI rates within CCMC. Sharon implemented the Safety Superhero Award, increasing the recognition for staff within CCMC that have been crucial to improving outcomes to improve patient safety. Under her direction, the Pediatric Service Line is flourishing. She oversaw the training of more than 30 adult nurses within just a few weeks to enable them to care for pediatrics to improve staffing in CCMC during the surge crisis.

Sharon promotes a culture of innovation within CCMC. As the co-creator of the Bee Mindful program, she continues to disseminate the work of the Bee Mindful program to hospitals internal and external to Northwell as well as large community settings such as the Queen's County Farm and the UBS theater.

Sharon also serves as a mentor to clinical nurses and the nursing leadership team within CCMC. She is the go-to person when staff need guidance with poster, podium, and publication submissions. She is the editor of the Pediatric Nurse Journal, an interprofessional collaboration of journal publications highlighting the special projects, initiatives, and work being done in CCMC. In addition, she is the chair of the annual Pediatric Nursing Conference, one of the first in-person conferences in Northwell post-pandemic, drawing over 150 pediatric nurses from within and outside of the organization.

In 2022, Sharon completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice with distinction in Nursing Leadership from Chamberlain University. Sharon’s contribution to CCMC is valued beyond measure, she is a critical driving force behind the major initiatives within CCMC.
