Anyone who is given a diagnosis of cancer understands the anxiety and distress felt when informed of this outcome, this is compounded by the myriad of questions that you seek answers to, that you either don’t think of or are too stunned to ask at the time of notification. After being informed by phone that my biopsy was positive for cancer, in my prostate, and that I would be contacted by the hospital in due course I was bewildered and frightened.
The phone call I received 3 days later from a lady who said her name was Sharon Huett from the Holman Clinic was nothing short of amazing.
Sharon patiently spoke to my wife and I and explained all the complexities of the situation and every scenario, all methods of treatment, and any side effects. Her phone call exceeded 45 minutes and my wife, and I were very much enlightened and comforted at the end of it.
Sharon rang back the next day with the follow up information. She made a special effort to see me on my pre-op day. She has kept in contact with several calls. She has been a conduit between me and my treatment at the LGH.
I think of Sharon as the angel who has guided me through the ordeal of a prostatectomy and recovery treatment.
