I wanted to let you know that Sharon Mathieu, RN admitted a 28-year-old female patient with a severe headache, with N/V from the ED. Sharon performed a thorough neurologic assessment and discovered the patient had photophobia and nuchal rigidity, signs of meningitis. Sharon immediately placed the patient on isolation and called the Dr. to discuss her findings. He ordered a stat lumbar puncture which in fact showed the patient had viral meningitis. Sharon kept in constant contact with the patient's mother who lives in Hawaii and just arrived in town. The patient's mother came to the 3rd floor this afternoon, very flustered, but extremely thankful for Sharon's clinical judgment and her loving compassion toward her daughter. Sharon is an example of a professional who provides radical loving care. I am so proud to call her my colleague!
