April 2019 Honoree
sharon mcmillian, BSN, RN
I witnessed Sharon going above and beyond to deliver excellent care to a patient on the unit. One of our patients on the unit has had multiple setbacks during his stay which caused him to feel down about his progress and lose interest in some basic things.
The patient made a comment about how nice it would be to go outside for a short period of time. Multiple RNs on consecutive shifts made plans to help this patient get outside, but because of this particular patient's acuity and the complexity of other patients on the unit, the staff ran out of time during their shifts to take him outside. Sharon stayed an extra 2 hours after working a 12 hour night shift to help take this patient outside. Sharon coordinated with the day RN to ensure the patient's safety and didn't miss any treatments. The compassion showed by putting her patient's comfort ahead of her own was admirable. Sharon embodies all of what it means to be a nurse.

Thank you, Sharon, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
