A very lucky patient was fortunate enough to have nurse Sherry Para as his guardian angel. A gentleman suddenly became ill and found himself on the ground. Sherry and her fellow nurses helped him back to the bed, and over the course of the next hour, Sherry showed why she was meant to be a nurse.
During that next hour, Sherry was constantly talking to and reassuring her patient, that he was going to be alright. At one point, the patient started vomiting due to a sudden headache, which continued several times over that hour. Sherry was right there each time, changing his gown, bathing him, so that if his family showed up, he would look like his normal self. Even though Sherry was busy with his personal care, she was continuously in contact with his doctors.
At one point, the patient asked Sherry if he was going to die. She looked right into his eyes and said that everything was going to be just fine, because he had all the best nurses and CNA's by his bedside. Eventually an RRT had to be called on her patient, because his condition was only getting worse. After the critical care nurses arrived and determined he needed to go to intensive care, the patient left the unit in as good of condition as was possible at that time.
When a nurse does an amazing job with the care of her patients, it is not only the right thing to do to let others know, but the duty of those that see it to share it with everyone else. Patients deserve the very best of care from their caregiver no matter what their condition. On this day, an amazing nurse at Ingalls showed no matter how busy one singular patient could be, all the combined training and knowledge that made Sherry the nurse she is, provided this patient everything that he needed for his mind, body, and soul.
