Her commitment to nursing and advocacy for the patient is clearly reflected in the excellent care that she provides to every patient.
Ms. Wagliardo noted an emergent laparoscopic appendectomy was posted for surgery at 1445, without delay, she contacted the Operating Room (OR) and found they needed the patient quickly. She then reached out to their OPS colleagues to inquire if they need help, they replied “yes”, and she sprang into action. Ms. Wagliardo immediately contacted the Emergency Department for report. In speaking with the ED nurse, Ms. Wagliardo, noted the ED was busy and volunteered to pick up the patient to avoid any further delay to get the patient to OPS.
But she didn’t stop there, Ms. Wagliardo began to preop the patient which decreased the prep time as the patient was in increasing pain. The time of surgery posting to the time the patient entered the surgical suite was 1.25 hours and this is a significant win in itself Ms. Wagliardo clearly demonstrates great dedication to duty, the organization, and the care of the patient. She went above and beyond her duties as a PACU RN with assisting the Outpatient Surgery team with prepping the patient for emergent surgery. Her dedication to our Veterans is shown in the fact that her timely prep of the patient allowed for the surgery to be completed quickly; thus, preventing complications such as burst appendix or sepsis.
Lastly, she epitomizes the ICARE values. Her commitment to nursing and advocacy for the patient is clearly reflected in the excellent care that she provides to every patient. Her compassion and commitment continue to allow Audie L. Murphy Veterans’ Hospital the healthcare organization of choice for our Veteran population.
