Sharon is always going above and beyond as a coworker, leader, and nurse. She is one of the most compassionate and caring people I have met and had the pleasure of working alongside. Sharon treats her patients as if they were her own family on a daily basis. I can think of multiple examples but New Year's Day was perhaps one of the most memorable.
We in the ED worked tirelessly to resuscitate a gentleman after he was ejected from his vehicle in a horrific auto accident but were sadly not successful.
Sharon was acting as Charge RN that day and went with the physician to notify the wife when she arrived to the ED. While speaking with the wife of the patient, Sharon discovered that the wife did not have any other family in the area, and no one to be with her to help her cope with the loss of her husband. Sharon stayed with the wife and comforted her.
At shift change (1915) the wife was still very upset but did not want to remain at the hospital. Sharon finished reporting off to the next shift and offered to drive the wife home. She was so beside herself and grateful that anyone would offer to do that, and Sharon did.
She arranged to have her own family follow her in their personal vehicle, and drove the woman home. Sharon then offered to stay with the woman until she had family to stay with her, the woman declined, but Sharon would have absolutely stayed with her until someone else from the woman's family was available.
I am so proud to be able to call Sharon my coworker, leader, and friend. She is the definition of empathy and compassion.
