Sharon Schwartz was my nurse in the operating room. Due to an emergency, my case was delayed for about 3 hours. Sharon took great care to let me know this as soon as possible and to ask if I needed anything or had concerns. She checked in again as the time for my case grew near and when the team was setting up the room for my procedure. When the room was ready, she came to my pre-op area and sat down with me to verify my personal information, the procedure, consent and laboratory values. I had many questions. She stayed beside me and guided me to the operating room. She helped me onto the OR table and she positioned a roll under my legs which made my back much more comfortable. Sharon alerted me when the compression stockings were going to be applied. When the Anesthesiologist began, Sharon let me know that she was right by my side. She was holding my hand and I remember feeling safe and reassured.
Sharon, my nurse, was the person with the responsibility for making sure everything that was needed was ready for my procedure. She took the emergency situation, the schedule changes, my long procedure, and the delay, in stride. She always put my wellbeing first. I am now on the road to recovery. I received extraordinary care from Sharon. I believe she is deserving of this DAISY Award.
