I was in the hospital for nine days. I had the pleasure of having a great nurse. She was so kind, compassionate, and empathetic towards me. After she wrote her name on the board in my room, we went over my pain level. Then she asked me what no other nurse had asked me during my entire stay: “What is the pain level goal you would like to set for yourself?” She would often check to see if that was still my goal. She doesn’t know, but by the time I was released, I had reached that goal.

Sharonda pays attention to details. When she would help me in the restroom, she would always run the water for me so that by the time I was ready to wash my hands, the water was nice and warm. I always told her it felt like a hug. Then, when I got to my bed, she had already laid it flat for me. I’m tall, so it’s always hard to judge where to sit so that when I finally lie down, my feet don’t hit the footboard. Being so sore, I could never readjust myself, and I would just be stuck until the next time I got out. But with the bed flat, I was able to hit that sweet spot every time. Sharonda would be an excellent trainer for new nurses who want to keep that attention to detail going.

Sharonda has a true gift of showing kindness, compassion, and great empathy. I felt so blessed to have been under her care.
