Sharyl Mejia, RN

Sharyl is an Extraordinary Nurse, she is a strong patient advocate, compassionate, knowledgeable, and a team player. She exemplifies everything that it means to be a competent nurse and a wonderful co-worker. Just one example is when we recently had an oncology patient whom we had treated for several years transition to comfort care. The patient had a young son, and it was Sharyl’s idea to create a special moment for them together, as well as some lasting keepsakes for the son to have. Sharyl “rallied the troops” and decided to have a photo shoot for the patient and her son, complete with professional makeup (supplied by another nurse’s friend) and professional photos provided by a friend of hers. I went to work that night to see the patient being made up, and when I commented on how beautiful she looked, she responded with an enormous smile and some sassy Madonna-like “vogue” poses. Later that night, when I spoke to her son, I mentioned how pretty his mom looked as he, too, responded with an enormous smile and a few giggles while he told me how she got lipstick all over him when she kissed him. This special act spearheaded by Sharyl provided so much joy, special memories, and photos that this boy will cherish forever. His mom has since passed, and I’m sure he will remember that evening for the rest of his life.
