Shaun was my son’s nurse. He was an excellent advocate for him.
My son was admitted to Upstate Medical for about 2 weeks. On the day of discharge, he had a nurse who was more than extraordinary. Shaun told us more information about my son's diagnosis in 10 minutes than any nurse in the 2 weeks we were there. He was genuinely caring. Shaun then told me that he works in the clinic where my son would be receiving chemo so I may see him there. Needless to say, Shaun was my son’s nurse. He was an excellent advocate for him and would let him use his personal fan when chemo was making him sweat. There was never a time I tried to reach him that I was unable to do so. If Shaun knew he was going on vacation, he would always let me know and always followed up with how things were with my sons. Most importantly, my son was 17 when diagnosed with cancer. He struggled with this tremendously and I can't say he was always the most pleasant person to be around. Shaun never once judged him and never, never once got upset with him or held it against him. He always entered the room with a smile and was the most pleasant person to be around. I will forever be grateful for the person Shaun is.
