A patient was in the ER for respiratory distress. Triaged as a 1. Late in the shift close to 1900, the code for the patient was decided to be a DNR. He was sent to the floor. On arrival to the floor, it was evident the patient was declining and the nurse that was going to be assigned to him was extremely busy with two other declining patients. Shaun stepped up immediately and switched patients with the originally assigned RN. The transition of care from ER to a private room and to an RN who was able to be present for the patient and his family was what the mission statement is about. Shaun stayed longer than his shift to administer End of Life Care. This compassion for the patient, his family, and his peers is something that Shaun exemplifies every time he works. He is a true team player and Saint Joe PCU is lucky to have him.
