NURSE—defined by Webster as a person trained to care for the sick!! That definition doesn't even come close to defining Shauna, nurse on second floor of William Newton!! Having been a patient in William Newton for about a week recovering from bilateral knee surgery, I was FORTUNATE enough to have Shauna throughout my stay!! Having been a veteran of Viet Nam and sometimes having flashbacks, few people, nurses included, know how to handle such an incident! But Shauna stepped right up, took care of the situation and continued on with her other duties!! As usual, with flashbacks, I have no recollection, but my family and other staff tell me that Shauna jumped right in, took control, and got the correct medication administered and the situation was de-escalated quicker than ever before!! A few days later, she gave me a hug and thanked me for my service!! She did not have to do so but that's what DEFINITELY makes this young lady an EXTRAORDINARY NURSE, HUMAN BEING, and deserving of the DAISY Award!!!!
There is no way to cover or describe the nurse that Shauna is!! She does so much above and beyond her actual duties of nursing!! She has no clue as to time; I would venture to say that every day of her shift she went over whether it be an 8-hour shift or 12-hour shift!!
