Shawn was caring for an elderly gentleman whose spouse was with him in the emergency department. The patient was experiencing weakness and difficulty ambulating without a walker, which he had left at home. Shawn knew that when the patient went home he would have a difficult time getting into his house. The patient's discharge coincided with the end of Shawn's shift. Providing outstanding care was not enough for Shawn. He chose to clock out after a 12-hour holiday weekend shift and follow the couple home to make sure they got safely into their house. Shawn does not live in the same town. He truly goes above and beyond for our patients every day.
