I have personally witnessed numerous instances where Shawn demonstrated bottomless patience, care, and commitment to ill and frightened Veterans and their families. He has grown accustomed to working in extreme temperatures during COVID-19. He has demonstrated the ability to provide in any environment including patient cars, vans, trucks, etc. He often relates to distressed Veterans by telling his own story as a combat Veteran, helping to relieve apprehension and fears of seeking medical care. I have seen Shawn engage a symptomatic Veteran by calmly explaining procedures, and tests to be performed and answering questions. He believes in the power of touch in certain instances that help with reducing fears. He is committed to providing excellence in patient care and being supportive to his team. He serves as a subject matter expert and a preceptor in the Emergency Department.
