A tragic event occurred in Tarboro when the parents of 3 children were gunned down and died. The victims were brought to Vidant Medical Center. The mother died at the scene with the father dying shortly after arrival. The parents were organ donors and Carolina Donor Services was present. During their attendance, Shawna Beard and two other coworkers realized that the 3 young children would never again have the opportunity in their lives to feel the hands of their mother and father. The three of them acted in kindness and collaborated with the donor service to assist in obtaining 3 sets of plaster impressions of the hands of their parents, which were ultimately given to the family by Carolina Donor Services. This striking act of thoughtfulness embodies the spirit and values of Vidant Medical Center.
