Shawna Corrigan, RN

Shawna had a patient who had been on tube feeding for 18 days in the ICU. She called the patient’s long-term acute care facility, had the patient’s dentures delivered to his room, arranged a swallow study, and soon cleared the patient for a regular diet. Unfortunately, the patient was refusing to eat the food that was offered, so Shawna sat down with him and asked him what sounded good to eat. He replied, “Chicken Fried Steak from Lumberjack’s Restaurant on Cypress Avenue.” Shawna quickly placed an order through DoorDash and paid for it from her own pocket. She knew how critical his nutrition was to his healing and the absolute joy he would get out of his “first” meal. We need more nurses like her! Way to go, Shawna! You can be my nurse any day!
