Shawna Moyer, RN

In 2021, a two-year-old girl presented to the Medina Emergency Room after a tragic accident where she fell into the family swimming pool. Unfortunately, her scans revealed an anoxic brain injury. As multiple doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists worked on the little girl, Shawna stood with the mom explaining what was going on, everything they were doing, and offered words of encouragement. The mom just stood in silence. In shock as we all would be. When she could think of nothing else to say, Shawna simply asked the mom if she could pray with her. The mom agreed and Shawna began to pray. She prayed for the little girl, her healing, and the family. For the girl to survive. This simple act of kindness is exactly what the mother needed in the moment. The mother posted on her Facebook about Shawna’s kindness and her gratefulness for knowing exactly what she needed when she couldn’t even process what was going on. Her simple act of kindness truly demonstrates extraordinary compassionate care.
