Last night I had a panic attack with depression. Shay took time to sit beside me, talked and explained the blood pressure unit to me. She made me feel very safe here. She let me talk, cry, and ask questions. Shay was very caring and nice. I felt she really did care about my feelings and was so sincere. Shay is a wonderful nurse.

Upon rounding, I had the pleasure of visiting with a patient. She proceeded to tell me about how amazing Shay was for her during the night. She stated that Shay was an angel sent to help her through the night. She then began to tell me that Shay realized that she was upset and starting to show increased anxiety over all that was going on, so Shay calmly sat down beside her and began to talk to her in a calming voice, explaining everything in the room so that she could understand what was going on around her. The patient then stated that Shay was an angel, and that was the only way she could describe her genuine caring attitude.
The patient stated she knew that Shay had other patients to tend to, but at that moment she felt like she was Shays only patient. She made her feel completely safe and that was important at that time. She then started to cry and tell me that she just loves Shay and wanted to make sure that I was aware of what a special gift I had taking care of our patients. I thanked her and sat with her until transportation arrived to take her home.
As Shay's manager, I have seen her grow into an amazing nurse. I routinely receive praises from her patients during my rounds, but for some reason, this little lady just poured out her gratitude and we both had tears in our eyes when she left. I am proud to have Shay on my team.
