June 2022 Honoree
Shayla Grosso, RN
My father arrived at Banner Desert as a stroke patient. We were lucky to have Shayla as his nurse until his passing. Her humor, smile, and the way that she took care of my father were such a relief to us. She reassured us every time we left that she would keep him comfortable and that he was in good hands. She was gentle with my father and explained everything to us. It was so difficult when we presented the DNR status. Shayla guided us with a gentle voice and even a reassuring hug!
Once my father passed, Shayla’s humor and kindness made it a little less hurtful and more bearable. Shayla allowed my family the time to say goodbye and allowed us to fill the room with my entire family. She never rushed us. Instead, she guided us with warmth and sincerity. I was amazed at how she carried herself when my father passed away. She continued to reassure us, never rushing anything, or letting her emotions get in the way.
Thank you, Shayla, for the loving care that you gave my father and for making a grieving family feel at peace with your nurturing smile and humor.
