I was hospitalized recently for four days at Baptist South. I’m also a volunteer there. On this occasion, I had a particularly difficult stay. Shayna was exceedingly kind and supportive while I was there. She works nights and was able to spend a little extra time giving me hugs, holding my hand, and encouraging me that all would be ok. She stooped down to my bedside and gave me a hug. Of course, that was amazing in and of itself. However, Shayna did not stop there. She told me she’d stop by to say goodbye after her shift was through, but she was too tired and had to go home and get some well-deserved rest. I did not think I would see her again as my volunteer duties are always during the day. As I was packing up to go home after being discharged, my door flew open, and in rushed Shayna all dressed for lunch with her family and carrying a beautiful vase of yellow roses for me! I was overwhelmed. I’m usually the one delivering flowers and cheer to our patients. Shayna took personal time of her own on her busy schedule to run over to say goodbye and deliver roses. She is an amazing nurse with a heart of gold. I’m so happy I had the opportunity to meet her and wanted you to know what a special nurse you have in her. She makes me proud to represent Baptist South. Thank you, Shayna!
